A Better Place to Bike and Walk

September 29, 2004 -- METROPLAN ORLANDO's Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) will be the recipient of the Florida Bicycle Association's (FBA) "Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee Award" at the "Share the Road Rally & Summit" on October 2.

The award is handed out each year to the organization that best demonstrates a friendly approach and attitude toward bicycling and pedestrian issues. "METROPLAN ORLANDO is very deserving of this award because they have made so many efforts to make Central Florida a better place to bike and walk, " said Laura Hallam, executive director of FBA.

"METROPLAN ORLANDO has had a bicycle and pedestrian program in place for over 15 years, they set aside funding for bicycle and pedestrian issues each year, they were responsible for getting bike racks on LYNX buses and they recently hired a bicycle and pedestrian education outreach coordinator," according to Hallam.

METROPLAN ORLANDO is the transportation planning organization for Orange, Osceola and Seminole Counties. FBA is an association of cyclists working together to make Florida a more bicycle-friendly state.
